If you have a long-term condition, the doctors can provide a repeat prescription without seeing you each time. A special form is attached to your prescription which gives a useful reminder of medicines you are taking and when to make an appointment for a review  of your medication.

This is important information which should stored carefully and used to order future prescriptions. It is also very useful to take this information with you to hospital appointment or if you are admitted to hospital as it can help the doctors at the hospital to understand your condition.

The practice processes several hundreds of requests for repeat prescription every week. We have tried to develop a system which is above all SAFE for our patients as mistakes can be potentially life threatening. We therefore ask patients to allow us enough time to check the requests carefully to ensure that that there are no errors.

If you have difficulty collecting your prescription, please contact your local pharmacy as most of these offer a collection service and will deliver medicines to housebound patients.

It helps us if you :

  • Please let us have your requests for repeat prescriptions in good time and at least two working days before you run out of medication.
  • Post your request and,if you require us to return your signed prescription by post, please enclose a stamped addressed envelope and allow at least five working day before you run out of medication.
  • Always use the repeat slip attached to your prescription to request your medication.
  • Always read the notes on the repeat slip and ensure that you make an appointment if requested.
  • Please not also that we do not process requests for repeat prescriptions at the weekend or on bank holidays so you need to allow extra time for processing if your request is received after 12 noon on Friday.

NOTE: Before you come to the surgery for repeat prescription please ring 0115 9846767 to confirm that your prescription is ready for collection.
